EXHIBITION - PHOTO AND VIDEO INSTALATION , 2005 - 2006.

WORK DESCRIPTION
Series of photographs "Always Hungry Gaze" are part of a project that consists of three related sections.

The first section consists of series of large colour photographs (up to 50x70 c m ) with the m otives photographed in the period of a year at the "Savica" m arket in Zagreb (2004 - 2005.).
The photographs represent an entire Saturday, fro m the placing of the stalls in the early m orning to the cleaning of the m arket in the afternoon. The m otives are varied, and besides the visual aesthetics, details, co m position and colouring, their docu m entary approach depicts the verisi m ilitude of the consu m er society, econo m ic co m petitiveness of supply, and personal stories of sellers at the m arket. All photographs are taken with digital cameras.

The second section consists of three projections. The first projection show an entire day fro m the opening to the closing of the m arket, in a sequence edited in fast m otion so as to bring forth the flow, diversity of supply and nu m ber of custo m ers during the day. The central projection shows m e as a participant in the Saturday shopping, the ca m era following m e at the m arket. The third projection m oves the ca m era to the eyes height, beco m ing m ore co m m unicative and lively, due m ainly to being held in the hand. All three projections are shown si m ultaneously and are cyclically repeated every 20 m inutes.

The third part of the project is perfor m ance in m oving a situation fro m life into the gallery space - placing a lady who usually sells her products at the m arket - in this new m arket world.

By directing m y view at the object and working on m yself, m y own consciousness and m y own life undergo a change. The awareness of nature, health and freedo m should overflows to the visitors at the exhibition, spreading the positive energy which abodes in a separate artistic sphere, the art of living. The esthetic di m ension of life is co m ple m ented - in a wider sense - by existential and ethical awareness of what we do, where we shop and what we eat.

ABOUT MARKET - HISTORICAL VIEW
Considering the m arket and its historical context, i.e. its origin, we go back in history to the feudal production and barter. The develop m ent of society led to a m arked division of work and separation of craft fro m trade, agriculture and cattle-raising. Due especially to the desire for specialization, the need arose for people who would carry out specific jobs which included the transport and selling of goods fro m one end of the world to the other. Those people needed specific geographic areas on which to carry out their trade, and then establish their habitations.
In the Pannonian area, those places were m ostly the elevated dry areas at the intersections of i m portant routes, in front of estates and castles or churches, or in busy areas where there was a large flow of people.
Due to this activity, s m all squares would be created in these places, and then later the m erchants' settle m ents. Through ti m e, those settle m ents, depending on the trade power and wealth of the people, developed into free cities. The great expansion of trade was beneficial to the develop m ent of m oney, and enabled it to take on a greater role in the process of barter or trade.
Each such settle m ent, m arket town, or city carefully selected the location of the square, i.e. m arket, as the m ost i m portant and recognizable sign of wealth and differentiation. Markets have beco m e the heart of every city, thus influencing the develop m ent and encouraging the race in size and appearance of the m arket and the co m petitiveness of produce. All this was a precondition for the arrival of m erchants fro m far-away lands with sought-after, rarely seen and precious goods, who visited a m arket depending on its reputation.
This way, the trade developed - trade that benefited the develop m ent of agriculture, cattle-far m ing, different crafts, and in the end, the develop m ent of the city, i.e. state - as well as wealth, whether in goods or m oney, which was a precondition for the develop m ent, quality of life, and the power of a city and its inhabitants.
